Welcome to Mrs. Abbott’s Dream Team
Dear Students,
Here is an update: I added a new topic in GC called Mystery Science Mini-Lesson.
There are videos and you can also respond in your Science journal or create
a Google Doc and share it with me. If you need extra reading material
you can go to Epic in Symbaloo. I encourage you to go to Khan Mappers
for math too. Also, Mrs. Jasiak has an S.E.L. Challenge. The link to
the challenge is below. I will also add it to the S.E.L. topic in Google
Classroom. There is also a code to use in GC from Mrs. Bacolor below:)

From Mrs. Jasiak:
Social-Emotional Learning Challenge for Week #1 with our students and families. Our plan and commitment is to have each week’s challenge prepared for you by this time on Tuesdays in order to meet your Wednesday 8 AM expectation. Our plan is to review the content we have already provided the students to date.

It will connect students to a Library Media Center Classroom where they can find information on the reading month superhero clues and view the read alouds (at least 2 more anyway) through the next few weeks. I'll add a few additional items as we go and figure out what might be needed.
I hope everyone is well. I miss you and I'm sorry I wasn't able to better prepare all of
you and say goodbye. However, Mrs. Goniwiecha decided on this basic schedule to keep all of you engaged while at home. We definitely have the advantage of being 1:1. It certainly will be helpful having your Chromebooks at home. Google Classroom will also be an asset to providing learning and enrichment over the next few weeks. You can start your schedule with the Growth Mindsets in Classroom just like we have done every morning all year. This week is Mindfulness. I have a video too. I encourage you to watch it as well. Then you can do 20 minutes at a time of the following activities: Lexia, read to self, IXL, Mobymax math, Reading Counts, or any quizizz in Classroom. I also posted some ReadWorks passages. I assigned some to all students and some to specific students. There is a long list of them so you can always check for old passages to see if you have done them yet. You can use these if you run out of reading material too. You can also go to Epic for more reading material through the Symbaloo. I also want to encourage you to finish your slides, technology projects i.e. Wevideo, Powtoons. Feel free to continue to write word stories using any words from your word lists in Google Classroom. Also, don't forget about StoryBoardThat and writing summaries from the books you are reading-keeping in my Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then reading strategy. Anything new you write or change you can share it with me that way I know you have made changes or written something new. Also, you can write me a note on the written piece letting me know about any changes. We will have lots of essays and writing pieces to read when we see each other again! It is recommended to stick to the normal bedtime and start working around the normal time too.
Now, boys and girls, I want to give you a few words of encouragement. It is imperative to set aside this time for learning every day. You owe it to yourself to continue to practice your reading, writing, and math skills. The GMS/and goals will start your day off with a positive plan. Then, read-to-self/RC (20 minutes), writers workshop (20-30 minutes), Moby Math is set up individually (20-30-thirty minutes is better). Then all the extras listed above-Reading Counts etc. You know how to do all of these activities. The only thing that is different is your not doing it at school just at home. I will be posted new assignments videos included and let you know in the Blog of updates. Please don't hesitate to ask questions or send messages in itslearning. I miss you and look forward to seeing you soon. I would also like to add, that I created a "Blog" topic so you can read the updates from me. Mr. Pfahler, Mrs. Warsaw, and Mrs. Mcelroy have activities for you so I created a gym, art, music topic in Classroom so check that out! Thank you for your support at home!
Dear Parents,
Hello! In an effort to try to keep things as "normal" and consistent as possible, I have posted a letter, new growth mindset morning form, and assignments in Google Classroom. Since the kids have their devices, this should be fairly routine for them. Remember when they sign into their computers, they will need to type @stjoebears.com after their login number. The password is always the same. I also updated the blog so you can know what we're thinking about all of this. The kids can send me messages in itslearning, below in the Blog, or Classroom. Go Guardian will not be turned on at this time per our administrators' directions. Please don't hesitate to email, text, or even call me with questions. Here is my number: 269-420-2727. The best time to reach me will be from 10:00-11:00 or 1:00-2:00. Thank you for your help in supporting your child's learning at home. Together, we can do this!

Thanks Mrs. Abbott! Today I did IXL and Moby Max Math. I took Reading counts tests Monday and got 20 more points. I've also been doing spelling lists.
ReplyDeleteHave you written any word stories? Remember to share the stories with me when you finish. Are you doing Lexia? Remember 20 minutes a day:)
